Nag resign na nga: No need to hold impeachment trial vs Bautista -Pangilinan

October 11, 2017

There is no more need for the Senate to convene as an impeachment court since Commission on Elections Chairman Andy Bautista has already tendered his resignation effective end of December 2017.
Senator Francis Pangilinan stressed this point on Wednesday after the House of Representatives voted to impeach Bautista. The lower chamber’s action necessitates the Senate to convene as impeachment trial.

Pangilinan noted that the penalty for a conviction in an impeachment trial is removal from office. “Since he has resigned effective end of the year I don’t see any reason why the Senate should convene as an impeachment court,” he said.

“It would be a waste of our time. For all intents and purposes the matter is moot,” the senator added.
