Parojinog lawyer said : Ozamiz police raid an 'overkill'

A lawyer of Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog-Echavez on Monday said that deadly police raid that left 15 people dead, including of mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. and his wife, become an overkill.

"i'm all for the war on drugs... but there may be any such aspect as justified killing, and there's any such factor as overkill," Atty. Ferdinand Topacio stated in an Unang Balita interview.

Topacio stated the old wife of the mayor, Susan, couldn't have pulled out a gun and fired on the policemen during the predawn raid inside their home in Ozamiz city.

"Babaeng matanda, alangan naman na bumunot pa ng baril na M16 ,M14 at paputukan pa ang pulis. Malayo pong mangyari ," he said

In a radio interview hours after the police raid on Sunday, Ozamiz CIty officer Jeffrey James Ocang stated the mayor could not have also engaged policemen in a gunfight.

"Malaking tao po{si mayor}. Hindi naman ho 'yon basta basta makakalaban ng barilan nagtataka po kami kung bakit naging ganito ang pangyayari, ganito ka bloody ," Ocang said

He said that the mayor and his wife and provincial board member Octavio Parojinog sustained gunshot wounds in the head

Meanwhile, Topacio said that they believe the police committed an abuse in the implementation of the search the meantime, Topacio stated that they agree with the police committed an abuse within the implementation of the searchwarrant.

He said that as a standard rule, search warrants are served in the course of the reasonable hours unless it was unique inside the warrant that the subject for the police's seek is mobile or can only be discovered during night time.
